Developing Workforce and Financial Skills
of Our Youth
Hunkpati Investments’ Youth Workforce & Financial Skills Program utilizes a customized curriculum with a combination of lectures and hands-on projects to deliver a highly practical series of courses than equip high school students with the skills they need to start taking on more responsibility. The program uses a two-tiered approach that focuses on helping reservation youth: 1) develop the skills necessary to successfully enter and advance in the workplace, and 2) adapt traditional Native values to the wise use of money in today’s economy.
The workforce development component of the program addresses such topics as developing interview skills, creating resumes, searching for a job, and meeting workplace expectations. Through its partnership with Diamond Will Ministries, Hunkpati Investments can also provide working teens transportation to and from their places of employment. The financial skills component of the program helps participants in making responsible decisions once they start receiving a paycheck. Teens who are a part of this program learn about budgeting, checking and savings accounts, and credit. Upon completing the Workforce & Financial Skills course, youth participants are able to include their certification on their resume to help them in obtaining employment.
