Planting Seeds of Financial Literacy and Entrepreneurship
Making Waves, created by Four Bands Community Fund, is a program designed to replace poverty and unemployment with financial literacy and entrepreneurship. The Making Waves program promotes the ABCs of Financial Literacy and Entrepreneurship®-key behaviors that people can incorporate into their lives to: 1) build and support private businesses, 2) become better stewards of money, and 3) expand assets rather than debts.
Financial Literacy ABCs: Assess Spending, Build Credit and Create Assets
Entrepreneurship ABCs: Assess Options, Build Experience, and Create Markets
Hunkpati Investments led the charge in adopting the Making Waves program on the Crow Creek Reservation and oversees the administration of the Making Waves Teacher Toolkits in the Crow Creek Middle and High Schools. The Making Waves Teacher Toolkits contain lessons targeted at financial literacy and entrepreneurship that support content standards in each of the four core content areas: Math, Science, Reading/Language Arts, and Social Studies. The ultimate goal of the program is to plan the seeds of financial literacy and entrepreneurship early so that future generations have the knowledge and skills necessary to have healthy financial futures.
